The hills were alive with the sound of groaning

Why is it that all the stuff we wanted to see was at the top of a hill? Despite the climbs, and there were many, I still gained 10 pounds riding every day for 2 weeks.

I plotted the routes on MapMyRide to see what Category that the climbs fell into. The 18% killer on the way to Baiersbronn was only a Category 3, apparently because it wasn't long enough. (It was plenty long enough for me.) The optional climb on the waterfall day and the climb to The Linge battlefield both earned Category 1.
